Ancient city from Harappan era found
Posted on Monday, May 01 @ 03:42:15 EDT by mysterindia

Red Hot Stuff
Chandigarh : Ruins of a city dating back to the Harappan civilisation have been found buried at Farmana Khas, about 12 kms from Meham in Harayana's Rohtak district. The city would havebeen located by the banks of the ancient course of the river Yamuna.

Besides being the first city of the Harappan civilisation in Haryana, archeologists believe that it has redefinedthe boundaries and extent of the civilisation. S N Roy, director of the department of Archeology and Archives, said the Archeologolical Survey of India would undertake further studies on the site. He said it was evident from the nature of the settlements and richness of antiquities found there that the city belonged to the Harappan civilisation.

He said that the place of new discovery, popularly known as Daksh Khera, was spread over an area of 32 acres and the ruins were under a three meter high hillock. He said keeping in view the size of the area of Daksh Khera, it appeared that it would have been a city of the Indus-Saraswati or Harappan civilisation.

He said this town would have been located on the banks of the river Yamuna, which is believed to have been flowing through that area in ancient times. Dr. Suraj Bhan, a former professor of Kurukshetra University, said that with the discovery of the ruinsof Indus-Saraswati Harappan civilisation on the banks of ancient course of river Yamuna, the belief that the civilisation belonged to the Rig-Veda era, has been further strengthened. He said that the discovery of Harappan civilisation on the banks of river Ravi in 1921 and of Mohenjodaro on the banks of river Ravi in 1922 have made the Indian history 5000 years old.
