The Union Tourism Ministry has cleared a proposal to develop the Wagah border post in Punjab as a major tourist destination.

As a part of the Wagah Development Project, a proposal of the Punjab government, six to seven sites in the vicinity of the border post with Pakistan will be developed as part of a 'freedom struggle circuit'. "Good roads have to be laid out in the area and there are plans to build restrooms and restaurants so that it can become a good day-long tourist destination," Union Tourism Minister Ambika Soni said.
