Kurnool, Dec. 26: Researchers have found evidence indicating the presence of human habitation 50,000 years ago at Kethavaram village in Orvakal mandal of the district.

A team of researchers from the Indira Gandhi National Centre for Arts conducted studies in the village recently.

 

The centre’s national co-ordinator, Mr Bansilal Malla, the state co-ordinator, Mr Chandramouli, Mr Muralimohan (archaeology), Mr Raghuram (botany), Mr Nageswara Rao (geology), Mr Satyanrayana (folklore) and Mr Gangadhar, (anthropology) were part of the team.

 

While talking to media-persons, the researchers said that humans had wandered in the Kerthavaram area 50,000 years ago and had also established habitations between 6,000 BC and 200 AD. “We found paintings, hunting tools, agricultural and pots,” said a team member.

 

“These evidences were found in Kethavaram, Kanamadakala and Pudicherla.” The paintings related to domestic animals as well as dances. “It implies that the people had developed dance forms,” said a researcher.

 

“We are undertaking more excavations with the hope of recovering more evidence,” he further said.
