60kph.com - The India Bikers Community
Description: Social structure in India doesn't encourage Adventure biking or cross country biking, hence the community was formed wherein like minded bikers could interact and get enough encouragement to live life the way they wanted to, on the ROAD. Result, 60kph has been consistently doing long distance riding since 5th Jan 2002 when it was formed and as the miles clocked in, the club and its members earned respect. A Philosophy at the club "You can never come back from a ride" that is one reason why true bikers feel the need to ride more often than others, to experience different places and interact with different people. And we, at 60kph, are constantly looking for riders who share the same philosophy, look at the road the way we do and are eager to share their experiences. 60kph'its believe that the two elements can be best experienced on two wheels. The road and the ride teaches the rider a lot of things, the best way to realize it consciously is to share it with others.

The Great Himalayan Marathon & Bike Rally
Description: Himalayan Run & Trek "The Himalayan 100 Mile Stage Race is the most spectacular running course in the world!" said a past winner. During the Race, views of Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and Kanchenjunga (4 out of 5 of the world's highest peaks) are visible. Regardless of your level of ability - whether a 10K, marathon, or ultramarathon runner - you can run at your own pace. There are no age limits or stage cutoff times. Five daily stages of 24 - 20 - 26 - 13 - 17 miles (31Oct. - 04 Nov., 2004) are designed for middle distance runners. Alternating running and walking, you can easily take in mountain views, catch a glimpse of national Park wildlife, and chat with villagers at fully stocked aid stations every few miles. This event was first held in 1991. The Mt. Everest Challenge Marathon was called "The World's Most Beautiful Marathon" by the editor of Runners World Magazine (UK 3/96). The 8 day trip sets a comfortable pace allowing acclimatization days to relax at Mirik Lake Resort, visit monasteries, tea estates, Himalayan mountaineering museum, Darjeeling markets, and enjoy spectacular views of Everest and Kanchenjunga at Sandakphu National Park. Runners may run as they wish during the first two days of the Stage Race. The Marathon is run on Nov. 02, 2004 (Stage Race Day 3) from Sandakphu (11,815 ft) along a ridge line footpath with spectacular mountain views. At about 18 miles, the course turns down through lush jungle and remote villages to reach Rimbik (6600 ft). Remaining days are free to run or walk. The Mt Everest Bike Rally follows the Stage Race course. It is the only bike tour in the world offering views of Mt Everest while riding at your own pace. A demanding day of uphill riding is rewarded by single track and mountain views. Technical riders enjoy days of riding downhill jungle trails and through villages. Rural roads allow riders of all abilities to enjoy Himalayan culture and scenery. Both running events and the bike tour are held simultaneously. Walkers are welcome and encouraged to join the trip. Walk at your own pace with a guide and enjoy spectacular views of peaks rising from Nepal, Sikkim, Tibet, and Bhutan such as Mt. Everest and Kanchenjunga, 1st and 3rd highest in the world. Jeeps support the running aid stations and bike riders so there is always a chance of getting a lift. Following mountain trails, you have time to stop in hill villages and monasteries along the way, yet have dinners and overnight with the runners. Walkers have plenty of time to enjoy the cultural diversity of Hindu and Buddhist religions, Colonial charm of Darjeeling, and scenery during the running events. All abilities and ages supported. 29 Oct - 05 Nov., 2004, start/end at Bagdogra Airport serving Darjeeling area in Northeast India. Price to run, bike, or walk is $1566.for 8 days Fri. - Fri. itinerary from/to Bagdogra. Prices include all meals, transport, aid stations, guides, T-shirt, and award trophy.

TripsintoIndia.com
Description: Martin (Phd) and Carol (Teacher) left the busy shores of the US and have settled in the foothills of Himalayas after vastly exploring India in the travels. They now conduct special tours for India travellers with many a delightful journey to their credit. Here are their crdentials : "We are veteran trekkers and explorers of the Himalayas and were some of the first foreigners to visit the tribal lands of Kinnaur and Spiti when they were opened to the outside world. We spent four months there exploring villages, monasteries and hiking trails, and have led tours (cultural and bicycle) and treks in this fascinating region. One trek, over the Parang La pass to Tso Moriri Lake, a trek that we lead in July-August, is prominently featured in the book on philosophy and our adventures in the Himalayas that Martin has recently completed. In the summer months between tours and treks we live in a cottage in a remote village at the foot of the Great Himalayan Range. We've led many treks from there since our first trek over the Rohtang Pass in 1979. We've explored the famous attractions and little-known wonders of this ancient but still-living culture, and lived among people from the many social, cultural and historical backgrounds that are the Indian nation. Avid cyclists (the bicycle is our transport in Goa where we can be found between tours in the winter months, playing host to the 50 species of birds that visit our garden), we have explored Goa (and other regions) extensively by bicycle. Few people are as well acquainted with Goa's excellent cycling routes and its places of interest and beauty. " Try them out folks if you want to try something different in India.
